Admissions Procedures

Applications for admission to the Department are accepted at any time. Requests for application materials, and questions about the Department, admissions requirements, or application status may be directed to:

    U.S. Citizens----

    The admissions process for U.S. citizens is described on the second page of the booklet "Graduate Application for Admission." Briefly, the procedure is this:

    1. Return the white Departmental Information Form and have three references send the reference forms to the Gradute Programs Office at the address above. Letters of recommendation are acceptable in place of the reference forms.
    2. The Graduate Application form, fee, official transcripts from each college and university attended, and scores on the General Test of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) should be sent to:

    Applicants for Graduate Assistantships and Fellowhsips are urged to take the GRE Subject Test in Mathematics in addition to the required general test.


    International Students----

    The Department encourages applications from qualified international students. Entrance policies are described in the booklet "Application for Graduate Admission", which is available from the Department of Mathematics or the Office of Admissions at the addresses given above. In addition to steps 1 and 2 listed above, prospective students whose native language is not English must submit a score at least 550 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language. Regardless of the TOEFL score, entering international students must take the University's English Language Proficiency Examination. Entrants with unsatisfactory scores on this exam will be required to enroll in the English Language Institute.
